Homework 9/15/2007

1. Translate or rewrite the abstract of the following papers.
  • Wayfinding Systems Based on Geo-coded QR Codes and Social Computing for Individuals with Cognitive Impairment, (accepted as a Journal paper.), to be presented in International Conference on Convergence Information Technology 2007, Gyeongju, Korea. November 21~23, 2007. (EI)

    A new and novel wayfinding system that helps the individuals with cognitive impairment. QR-Code base technology can easily used in indoor by using wi-fi as a data transmission media. User takes the QR-Code and will pop out a navigation picture to assist or remind in right way to turn or go straight. In addition, the tracking system will monitor the user in case of lost on the way to the destination. The blog as a training and teaching tool to help the individuals with cognitive impairment to get familiar with the technology.

  • A General Architecture of Mobile Social Network Services, to be presented in International Conference on Convergence Information Technology 2007, Gyeongju, Korea. November 21~23, 2007. (EI)

    A novel MSNs is introduced in this paper. The location-ware service can be have several great personalize applications, such as blind dates, looking for friends. People won't be isolated by using new Internet technology, but as a social tools to get more closed and form a community. Profile matching can get professions together with same interest. The architecture with social service is constructed in existing Wi-Fi technology.


2. Read Sec. 1-1, 1-2 of Textbook and the presentation materials in class.
What is the key factor which contributes to the integration of various media such as data, voice, and video on a single platform?

Everything is through IP(Internet protocol, so that data, voice and video can exchange information quickly.

3. What are the major differences between wireless and wired communication?
From the slides, we can find multipath, fading , interference and hidden terminal are the key differences.
