Robin Kay, Developing a comprehensive metric for assessing discussion board
effectiveness, British Journal of Educational Technology, Vol 37 No5 2006. pp. 761-783

This paper will find out a way to evaluate the discussion board. The variable are thread, location of message within thread, author (student vs. educator), subject line clarity, time of posting, response time from previous message, number of times message was read, number of words, primary purpose, message quality, difficulty level of topic, knowledge level, processing level and use of external resources. I think the hardest part is how the student find the information they want if someone had asked before. And the purpose of the discussion board should be concerned. Not only for education, but also some technology, news discussion board which may cause other variable to show up. The participants are form different career have diversity of purpose. It remains more topics for research.

The paper abstrat-
The growing of WWW turns another name called Web2.0, new application and way of connecting people. For example, blogs and social networking site make people communicate more easier and faster. Two of the social networking sites in China will be analyzed. They will show the networks have small-world and scale-free feature. Also, the distribution of the topological distance will be studied. The correlations between degree and degree, clustering coefficient and degree, number of page views and degree ,respectively, are discussed in the paper. This paper will show blogging network have disassortative mixing pattern and SNS is the assortative. The research and analysis of online social networks will explain the self-organizing structural characteristics.

my comments-
It's interesting that blogs and social networking site are empirical analyzed. Both are online social networks in the age of Web2.0. I think blogs want to keep the the simple and easy to write down anything. People will find the blog and share to others(blogger in google). The connection is created in comments. Social networking site is creating a connection after you registering it. And it contains more functions for interaction. For example, every visitor will be saved to make more connections.

  A new and novel wayfinding system that helps the individuals with cognitive impairment. QR-Code base technology can easily used in indoor by using wi-fi as a data transmission media. User takes the QR-Code and will pop out a navigation picture to assist or remind in right way to turn or go straight. In addition, the tracking system will monitor the user in case of lost on the way to the destination. The blog as a training and teaching tool to help the individuals with cognitive impairment to get familiar with the technology.

  A novel MSNs is introduced in this paper. The location-ware service can be have several great personalize applications, such as blind dates, looking for friends. The architecture with social service is constructed in existing Wi-Fi technology.
